C-MiC Technology Builds Houses Like Building Blocks

Concrete Modular Integrated Construction(C-MiC) technology, originally developed by the China State Construction Hailong Technology Co., Ltd., is a new type of industrial construction technology that builds houses like building blocks.

It has been successfully used to reconstruct the No.8 building in the old community homes in the Huapichang Hutong of Beijing's Xicheng district, in a green construction project that took just three months to complete.

The C-MiC technology urban renewal process is to first divide the building into several modules according to functional zoning, and then carry out high-standard industrial prefabrication of the modules, and finally deliver these to the construction site where they are assembled to become a complete building.

"Using C-MiC technology to build houses is like a game of building blocks, but it is also an important way to achieve green construction," said Ren Gang, Design Director of the project of the No.8 Building Redevelopment.

Compared to traditional methods, moving the construction from the site to the factory not only solved the difficulty of on-site construction, but also shortened the construction period by over 60 percent.

The modular integrating construction only needs three steps, and the factory production, as well as site construction, are carried out simultaneously. C-MiC technology makes more than 90 percent of the construction process completed by industrial workers in the factory, greatly reducing the on-site workload. Compared with the traditional construction method, it has reduced 75 percent of construction waste emissions, and reduced 25 percent of material waste.
